Primary Advice from Veteran Collectors
In our attempt to guide young collectors, we got together with two long established collectors in the MENA region to pick their brains and chat about their long established passion, asking about that one primary advice to give their young counterparts.
After delving into their value-added insight, the primary advice both collectors cited was; “buy what you love”.
While factors like investment potential, market trends, and artist reputation are important considerations, the core principle is to acquire art that resonates with you personally and brings you joy. This ensures that you'll have a collection you truly appreciate and adore, regardless of its monetary value.
Additional advice included:
-
Educate yourself: Learn about different art styles, movements, and artists to develop your knowledge and taste.
-
Do your research: Investigate the artwork's provenance, condition, and authenticity before purchasing.
-
Set a budget: Determine how much you're willing to spend and stick to it.
-
Build relationships: Connect with artists, dealers, and other collectors to expand your network and gain insights.
- Visit exhibitions, galleries and art shows to widen your horizon and find out what is available on the market to minimize mistakes and get the most fitting artwork for your collection.
